Today we were separated into two groups, the Education Department and the Market Development Department, to carry out their activities.
The Education Department visited Baan Nong Yang School. Before starting the activities, we attended the morning assembly and briefly introduced ourselves in front of the children.
In the morning, the members were divided into three groups to interact with children: 1) making misangas, 2) making origami, and 3) making button whirligigs. The children seem to be having a lot of fun with the toys we taught them how to make.
Then, we attended a meeting with the school principal. During the meeting, we introduced PRENGO's activities and listened to a talk about the problems the school is facing.
We played soccer, volleyball, and soap bubbles in the afternoon with the children. Even though we do not speak the same language, we deepened our friendship through these games.
After that, the teachers gave us a tour of the school. We could look at the environment in which the children study and what they study. The children and some members were in tears as they had to say goodbye to each other at the end of the activity. Although it was only a short one-day visit, the children and members were able to create fond memories.
The Market Development Department started the day off by visiting Lamduan City Hall. We greeted the new mayor of Lamduan District and introduced PRENGO's organization. We were able to hear for the first time about the problem the children in villages are currently facing that arose as a result of the new entrance system, which requires a higher cost.
In the afternoon, we moved to Suan Niwet, where we were divided into two groups: the first group made a trial of cricket tsukudani (food boiled in soy) and cricket sembei (rice crackers) in order to prepare for the sale at the Bilateral Market that we will be holding.
The second group worked on the design of the Bilateral Market. We painted flags that will be placed all over the market for decoration.
Tomorrow, we will continue the activities of each department. The Education Department will be visiting a different elementary school, while the Market Development Department will be continuing their product development activity.
Please stay tuned for our next post!
