Day 11 of Summer Expedition 2024

EXD recently organized a joint project at Weerawatyothin, bringing together three high schools we’ve previously visited during our departmental activities! 😊✨🤝

Around 100 middle and high school students participated!

To start, before the main event began, we held an icebreaker activity using the Japanese language they had learned in class. We played bingo! At Siram Prachasan School, they learned Japanese words for food, at Srinarong Pittayalai School, they learned colors, and at Weerawatyothin School, they learned how to express hobbies in Japanese. The bingo game was designed so that students had to find people who matched the descriptions on their bingo cards and get them to sign it during self-introductions! 📝✨ At first, they seemed a bit shy, but gradually you could see their nervousness fade as they started to chat more comfortably! 🌱

Next, we moved on to the main activity, creating a local area map! We had previously asked the students to bring in photos that captured the charm of Surin as they saw it. They then used these photos to come up with tourism plans and create a map of the area! 💫 By searching for and sharing what they loved about their community, the students were able to rediscover the appeal of Surin! 😊

MDD began with a meeting to review our past activities📝. We shared the content and insights of our online activities with members who hadn’t joined expedition with us.

After having lunch🍴, we discussed the details of our upcoming activities. We planned out what questions to ask and how to conduct ourselves at the market. Next, we visited Baan Tam Nob Market, where we continued with on-site research🧐, just like last time. As part of a workshop, we made local sweets that resembled Japanese sesame balls and fried mochi. We were surprised by the cooking methods, but after a few tries, we got the hang of it. The sweets we made had a distinct Thai🇹🇭 flavor and sweetness, and we all enjoyed eating them together.

Afterward, we dug deeper into the information we had learned from the locals during our previous visit. We were able to hear more detailed stories about who runs the market, who the vendors are, and so on. We also explored the market, noticing the different atmosphere and the varying number of customers depending on the day of the week, which surprised us.

Finally, back at the hotel, a professor taught us about Surin Province’s tourism industry🐘 and local specialties🌱. We also learned about the purpose of our activities and the values that guide them.

Today, EDD held an all-day meeting at the hotel! 📋💼

In the morning, they reviewed the upcoming activity schedules and flow, discussing any necessary changes. They also split into groups to finalize the content for projects such as Career Education and English Station for Upper Grades. Additionally, they planned field research at the schools and discussed the questions they would ask teachers during reflection meetings. 💭🔍

In the afternoon, the groups gathered to compile and share their reflections in preparation for the next EDD meeting. Later, EDD members from Thailand and Japan held an online meeting to update each other. 🌐👥 Finally, they rehearsed the activities for Career Education and English Station, making sure everything was ready. 🎯📚

The EDD is fully prepared and excited for the final two days of activities! They are ready to make the most of this opportunity with enthusiasm! 🔥✨
