The Market Development Department visited Professor Ladawan (Pui), who teaches community development at Ratchapat Surin University, and her 11 students. After introducing themselves to each other, Prof. Pui talked about study of community development and the students' activities through it. In the 4th year, they worked practically by coming up with a community development project. Next, after introducing general information about PRENGO and Market Development Department, and the activities they have conducted so far, the students were divided into two groups to exchange opinions with the students. Some of the students had actual sales experience, so we were able to hear their opinions and ideas based on their actual experiences.
In the afternoon, we visited Ban Takhian Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital Surin Province, where we learned from the staff about the current state of health and hygiene in Lamduan District and asked questions from the PRENGO side. This was useful information for the Market Development Department, which would like to consider the sanitation sector as one of its axes. Afterwards, we discussed how to improve our activities to date and the direction of future activities, as well as how the Market Development Department can get involved with Ms. Sanya, a local collaborator. In implementing the project, we would like to proceed with each step carefully, as it is important to build a relationship with the cooperator.
The Exchange Department visited Ampun Kindergarten and interacted with the students. The villagers welcomed us and tied orange strings around our wrists to wish us good health, safety, and peace in the future. This is a traditional culture of the famous northeastern and northern regions of Thailand, where it is said that tying a cord protects you from ghosts. In addition, the school children performed a dance they had practiced. After planting various kinds of plants in the flower beds outside the school building, the students played on the playground equipment. The children washed their hands and gargled on their way back to their classrooms. Inside the building, the children were seen cleaning up quickly, and also receiving their lunch boxes while expressing their gratitude. While they were taking a nap, the Exchange Division members were served Thai dishes such as grilled chicken raised by the villagers and som tam with papaya salad. In the afternoon, we prepared for the Bilateral Market and had a review meeting. The members again reviewed the improvements and positive aspects of the "Class of Inititatives" that we had recently conducted.
The Education Department visited Wat Thaksin Waree School as they visited yesterday. Today, we held an English class called "English Station," which was conducted online from within Japan, for the lower grade students. First, we taught numbers and the alphabet to the first graders. The 2nd and 3rd graders were given a survey on their motivation to learn English before the class started. The students then learned vocabulary related to numbers and the alphabet through games in which they used their bodies to express themselves. The children enjoyed learning about the game of expressing emotions with their bodies, and it was so exciting that children and teachers from other classes gathered to watch the game. We were glad that the project, which we have been working on for half a year in Japan, was a success. We will continue to monitor the progress of the students as we visit Wat Thaksin Waree School tomorrow.
